  • Founding Member, Statistician, Social Media Coordinator 2020 — Present

    Richmond Climbers Coalition, Richmond VA

Founding member of an organization which seeks to create change within rock climbing culture to build an accessible and inclusive community. Responsibilities include organizing community-building events, organizing fundraising efforts, managing social media accounts, analyzing data collected in efforts to gauge community opinion, and community outreach to facilitate partnerships between other organizations.

  • Volunteer Psychology Consultant 2020 — Present

    New Hope Children’s Home, Peru

Currently providing periodic consultation on child development and trauma-related topics to staff when desired. Sharing resources for evidence-based treatment with staff psychologists on-site.

  • Council Member     2016 — 2019

    Hanover and Henrico Re-entry Council, Henrico VA

    Planned and executed events to provide returned citizens and their families with social support and local resources to aid in transitioning from incarceration to community life. 

  • Volunteer – Family Mentor       2016 — 2017

    International Rescue Committee, Richmond VA

    Provided newly immigrated families with social support, information on services and resources available within the community, transported to appointments, and answered any other cultural questions.

  • Service Learning Study Abroad – Zambia 2015

    University of Zambia (UNZA), Lusaka, Zambia

    Instructor: Zewelanji Serpell, Ph.D. 

    Topics of study included mental health care within a different cultural context, child development, and psychological research in an international setting. For two weeks students learned about Zambian culture, listened to lectures by professors at UNZA regarding mental health care and research, and visited local health care facilities. Sites included a youth support group for children growing up with HIV, an orphanage home for girls, a school for disadvantaged youth, and the psychiatric wing of a state hospital. For the service learning element, I was chosen to teach a classroom of Deaf children at the school for one week. Students also spent one day at an orphanage, planting trees.

  • International Volunteer   2011, 2013 & 2015

    Grace Masak School and Children’s Home, Kasoa, Ghana

    Volunteer responsibilities included orphanage upkeep and food preparation, as well as constant childcare throughout the day with special attention paid to the young children who were not yet attending classes. In addition to the general expectations, volunteers often also helped with teaching in the K-5 classes. Training included overview of volunteer expectations, cultural norms and appropriate behaviors, and a brief introduction to the local language.

  • Program Director         2010 — 2011

    Living and Learning Center, University of Vermont, Burlington, VT

    Co-designed a residential learning program called “Cakes with a Cause.” Responsibilities involved managing a budget, organizing and running events planned for anywhere from 10-100 people, acting as a mentor and resource for program members, teaching learning objectives to members, collaborating with other campus organizations, managing weekly meetings, assessing the success of the program, and ensuring that all program goals were met.
